Crusaders destroy Hurricanes

Despite Spring still not showing up, once again it was warm and atmospheric at Sportpark Sloten in Amsterdam. The national champions took on the Hilversum Hurricanes in their third match of the 2009 AFBN regular season.

Falcons @ Dominators

On Sunday 15th March the Arnhem Falcons took on the Utrecht Dominators who are in their first ever Division One season following promotion at the end of 2008. The Falcons just managed to get enough players together to avoid a forfeit. Amongst those missing were QB Joost Holtslag (suspension) and Michel van Rijswijck and Maikel Huysmans (injury).

Cats Run Wild on Trojans

On Sunday morning, far too early for some, the Trojans began the long drive to Maastricht to face one of their rivals – the Wildcats. Both teams were undefeated going into Sunday’s matchup, the Trojans winning their last two games by at least a touchdown difference, while the Wildcats nearly doubling the net points of any other team while having used a large amount of their backup players in the previous games.

Crusaders win Amsterdam derby

On this sunny but wintery day the Crusaders paid a visit to their neighbours the Amsterdam Panthers for the first Amsterdam derby in many years. The nationl champions appeared to be a little over-motivated leading to some chaotic and undisciplined play to start the game which resulted in a plethora of unnecessary penalties.

Trojans' Second Win Comes at Arnhem

Despite numerous first downs, and and two promising early drives deep into Arnhem territory on the back of veteran running back Mike Rozenblad, the Trojans were forced to give the ball up to the home team's stiff defense. However, on their third drive quarterback Victor Krumov was able to open up the scoring with a 65 yard completion to wide receiver Dayron Nicolaas, which ultimately put the Trojans up by six.
