On Sunday 15th March the Arnhem Falcons took on the Utrecht Dominators who are in their first ever Division One season following promotion at the end of 2008. The Falcons just managed to get enough players together to avoid a forfeit. Amongst those missing were QB Joost Holtslag (suspension) and Michel van Rijswijck and Maikel Huysmans (injury).
The 3rd quarter saw the Dominators QB Mark Bron extended the lead to 12-0 with a TD (PAT no good). The Dominators jumped further ahead in the 4th quarter through a TD interception return from Utrecht defender Lever Agasi. Again, the PAT was no good but the Falcons were looking at an 18-0 deficit with little time remaining. There was some light at the end of the tunnel for Arnhem when Lennard Harris made a defensive TD. PAT was no good and the game ended with a score of 18-6 to the Utrecht Dominators. The Falcons not only suffered a loss in the standings, but also in their playing ranks when star TE Thijs Steffen was ejected for aggressive conduct, meaning yet another player missing for the next game. Arnhem Falcons are now at the bottom of the Division One South poule with a record of 0 wins and 3 losses. Seven more games remain to make a fight for the playoffs. However, Maastricht Wildcats seem to be rolling in at first place, and it seems the remaining playoff spot will be contested by the other three teams. |
